Putting the Interactive into Alt-Broadcasts

X Games is where we cut our teeth back in 1998. It’s still the proving ground. For athletes. For events. For broadcast technology. And for the production teams trusted to bring it all together live. Today, X Games continues to push how action sports live broadcasts reach fans across an increasingly fragmented distribution landscape. Audiences no longer show up in one place, on one screen, at one time. The broadcast has to meet them where they are. What started as experimental alt casts and second-screen experiences have evolved into a core pillar of modern X Games coverage. In some cases, the main event. Different platforms demand different pacing, formats, and storytelling styles, and producing the right content for the right platform is no longer optional. It’s the secret sauce. That’s where experience matters.

Building an Interactive Action Sports Streaming Experience

The X Games digital interactive experience extends the traditional linear broadcast into interactive, social-first platforms including YouTube, Twitch, & TikTok.

We got tired of waiting for someone else to build a tool that blended what we love about streaming culture with the reliability of traditional broadcast workflows. So we built our own.

Fanvibes powers real-time interaction with millions of viewers across X Games digital platforms. Some fans show up to watch their heroes. Others might be encountering action sports for the very first time. The experience has to work for both.

By flexing the full range of our live streaming and interactive broadcast capabilities, we turn passive viewing into participation. Polls. Reactions. Live feedback loops. All designed to keep audiences informed, entertained, and actually involved.

The goal is simple: make action sports broadcasts feel alive online. And keep the audience vibes riding high.

Everything you need to know about how we build competitive entertainment
Does Boombox work with non-endemic brands entering sports and gaming?
Saint-Sauveur, Quebec
+-

Yes. Non-endemic brands, those without a natural connection to sports or gaming, are some of our most interesting clients because the creative challenge is harder. The goal is to help brands show up authentically in spaces where audiences have strong bullshit detectors. We've worked with brands across categories who want to reach gaming and sports audiences without looking out of place. The approach is always the same: find the genuine overlap between what the brand stands for and what the competition stands for, then build content that earns the association rather than buying it.

What does a typical engagement with Boombox look like from brief to delivery?
Saint-Sauveur, Quebec
+-

Every engagement is different, but the through-line is always strategic thinking before execution. We start by understanding the competition: what it is, who cares about it, and why . Then build the content architecture around it. For live productions, that means pre-production planning, crew and talent coordination, broadcast graphics, social content systems, and post-event coverage, all managed by a single team. For format development, it means concept work, pilot production, and refinement before a full commitment. We're a one-partner shop: one process, one point of accountability, no gaps between strategy and delivery.

What is competitive entertainment, and why does Boombox focus on it?
Saint-Sauveur, Quebec
+-

Competitive entertainment is content built around competition, the stakes, the characters, the moments, and the stories that make audiences care who wins. It spans esports broadcasts, action sports events, creator-led challenge formats, and brand-funded competition content. Boombox focuses on it because competition is the through-line connecting everything we do. Whether we're producing the LCS Spring Split for Riot Games, a Red Bull action sports series, or a creator challenge format for a streaming platform, the engine underneath is always the same: real stakes, real tension, real personality.
